Where to Stay in Europe - Important Updates

After 10 years of "service" the database of European Scout centres is going through a process of modernisation and updates. This will last until 1 February 2013 and no changes would be possible until that date. Thank you for understanding and we're looking forward to be able to promote more and better Scout Centres across the Region.

R'Opportunities

There are millions of things you can do alone and with a group to make things happen and make a difference. Whether you are alone or with a Rover group, whether you are from a city or from a small village, whatever time you have available, there's a lot you can do. Do not think about tomorrow, start acting today. You can start something even bigger next time. There are friends waiting to be made, challenges to be met and places to be explored.

European Scout Voluntary Programme

Spending some time abroad and still enjoying the advantage of being almost like some place you know? That could be going to a foreign country but spending your time in an active way at a Scout base. The European Scout Voluntary Programme (ESVP) is here to help you and other young Scouts from around the world to develop your leadership skills and broaden your knowledge about other cultures and Scouting in other countries. Go and spend at least four weeks as a volunteer staff member at a site in another country within Europe.
The sites range from islands to castles, mountains to flatlands, old and new, from Iceland to Croatia passing through the UK, Poland and Switzerland. All of the sites are established Scout Centres. Many of them are open year round and have been working with volunteers for years. The sites all provide 'basics' such as a bed and food, as well as training and development within the framework of each sites organisation. You just have to do your volunteer's job well and the rest will be taken care of for you. It doesn't only sound easy! it is easy to do as well!

Scouts of the World

You want to help to make the world a better place? And to carry out a project that you designed yourself and that makes sense to you? You do not want to sit around complaining about the difficulties of the world around you but you want to do something about them? The Scouts of the World Programme is here for young Scouts (in fact, for non-Scouts as well) and it gives you a chance to get things moving. Talking is not enough, acting matters. Take up the challenge! Get hold of the The Scouts of the World Award and become part of the worldwide Scouts of the World Network.
Ask at your national association's headquarters about how to take part.

European Voluntary Service

Step out of Scouting and enjoy one of the biggest adventures for young people in Europe. Become a volunteer through the European Voluntary Service (EVS). Go to a foreign country and be a part or even a driving force of a beneficial project. Find a project of two months. Find a project of one year. Or anywhere in between. Join with other Rover team members and go to an EVS project together. The European Voluntary Service is part of the YOUTH IN ACTION programme run by the European Union. It brings you closer to new poeple and new experiences, to non-formal education, youth exchanges and voluntary services. It is based on your commitment and your will to make things happen.

Where to Stay in Europe

Looking for a place for your Rover team's outdoor training? Or for a base to discover another country from (and at a reasonable price)? Or just wanting to meet with Scouts from foreign countries on your own? The Where to Stay in Europe (WTSIE) database is an excellent resource for you. Pick a country and pick a place. Check what the place offers and go. Or pick another one if you are looking for something else. Dozens of camp sites, mountain chalets and in-town places to choose from. WTSIE gives you every piece on necessary information (size, opening times, prices, location etc.) for each site and contact details to get more information.

The International Award

The International Award is an exciting self-development Programme available to all young people worldwide equipping them with life skills to make a difference to themselves, their communities and their world. To date almost 6 million young people from over 110 countries have been motivated to undertake a variety of voluntary and challenging activities.
The Award is flexible and can be done by anyone aged 14–25 in their own time: mental or physical ability or social circumstances should never be a barrier. Moreover, the individual chooses what activities to do depending on his/her interests and resources. If you are over 25 then do not despair! You too can get involved by becoming an Award leader, the backbone of the Award Programme and the key to its success.
There are three levels of the Award in which you can participate - Bronze, Silver and Gold, with each successive level demanding increased commitment

Explorer's Belt

Plan a project and do your walking. Go to another country and carry out a project you designed yourself. Apply for being a Explorer's Belt team member and train with the others to be able to survive in the other country and ready to meet with local people. Do not hesitate to be really with and among the locals. Explorer's Belt is about stepping over your own limits and designing and reaching your own goals.
Look at what Explorer's Belt looks like in the United Kingdom or Ireland

Other volunteering opportunities

Volunteering opportunities may be brought to you by big international NGOs as well as by the local leisure time centre in your community. You only have to keep your eyes open if you want to make a difference. Apart from the options suggested in other chapters of the RoverOpportunities, there are many places online bringing your volunteering involvement closer to you.
Ask your friends, parents, Scout leaders or teachers to find out about your community’s needs.

Internships in Europe

An internship is an opportunity for you and your future professional career. Many companies offer short term and long term internships to students and graduates. An internship may be paid, unpaid or partially paid, part-time or full-time. An internship is a great way of acquring new (and often first) professional experience. Check the websites of companies you would like to work for one day.

RoverWay

Have you ever been to the World Scout Jamboree or to the EuroJam? For you being a Rover, the ultimate event is the RoverWay. RoverWay is the like a European jamboree but just for Rovers and designed to fit them. Explore the ideas of service! Enjoy the challenges and joys of being a part of an international team! Do your hiking! Meet the locals! Face the local environment! Make best of what an intercultural arena has to offer to you! Have you or any of your Rover friends been to the first RoverWay in Portugal in 2003, the "Dare to Share" RoverWay in 2006 or the "Open Up" RoverWay in Iceland? No matter if the answer is yes or no for you, get ready for the RoverWay in Finland in 2012!
