World Organization of the Scout Movement
Kandersteg International Scout Centre is beautifully situated in the heart of the Swiss Alps, only 65 km south of Bern, the capital of Switzerland. The nearest airports are Zürich and Geneva which are about 3 hours by train, and Belp (Bern) which is only an hour away.
The Centre is easily reached by train, the local station being only 2 km away. In the high seasons a bus runs regularly from the station to the Centre, but we can also arrange to pick you up at the station.
Being the only World Scout Centre, the staff at Kandersteg International Scout Centre is truly international. You will work with Scouts and Guides from many different countries and continents, and serve guests from all over the world. In 2008, the Centre welcomed 11’000 guests from about 40 different countries and 35 nationalities and 5 continents were represented on staff. The work you will do depends very much on the time of the year.
In spring we concentrate on preparing for the summer and maintaining the buildings for 350 people and the campsite for 1400 people. In summer, the work is much more focused on serving the thousands of guests by keeping the campsite toilets clean, running the shop, serving food, providing activities etc.
The Centre programme is based on three main themes: International Friendship, Alpine High Adventure and Environment. All volunteers will run daily activities such as hikes, crafts, nature workshops and climbing workshops as well as the evening programme including campfires and games evenings.
You will share a room with two other people and have all meals served at the Centre. Other benefits include staff shirts, laundry facilities, toiletries, a weekly day off and a Staff Night Out every week. Come and help MAKE the magic that is Kandersteg!
